Vaughn Palmer: James warns of cash crunch, seeks respectful bargaining

With a year to go before current labour contracts in the public sector expire, Finance Minister Carole James is cautioning employees there is not a lot of money for catch-up increases.

“Bargaining starts in 2019 for all of the public sector and everyone comes up at once: nurses, doctors, teachers, public servants,” James said recently. “So if you add all those together, in fact, it’s probably going to be tight for the kinds of resources that have been put aside to try and deal with all of those issues.”
